How to choose a cat?
Here’s one of them - my friend went to see her relatives in Ukraine and walking down the street she noticed something on the ground. It was a little white kitty, covered in grass and trash. Some people had apparently put him into the bucket of lime and then – had thrown him on the street. And he was only 1,5 months old!
The Kitty had been properly washed and then brought to Moscow. I’ve never seen anything so terrible before – he was very sick, his eyes and ears were covered with gleet an he was very skinny! The woman that picked him up had spent a lot of time trying to fix him and all in all he grew up into being a happy and healthy cat with absolutely beautiful red fur!
So, take time to think everything over very carefully if you really want to buy a cat.
First thing you should consider is what breed are you interested in and why? It will be helpful to read as many information on breed in question as you can find, to know all the pluses and minuses.
Then, learn how to take care of the breed you’ve chosen. The beautiful fur you see on the cat shows requires a lot of care, for instance.
How much money are you ready to spend monthly on your new family member? Be ready to spend quite enough. Your cat will need vet care, injections, shampoo and the most important thing – special food. You can’t feed your high-class cat with “just something”, it’s bad for the cat.
Then, make sure you know why you’re getting a cat.
Do you want to do breeding or do you just wanna buy a pet?
Sometimes people say – I’m not going to do breeding, ok, maybe once or twice, to keep my cat healthy. No way it is making your cat healthier! So either breed or sterilize your pet.
Age of your kitty is an important thing too.
It’s not a good idea to take a cat younger than 2,5-3 months old. Cats need time to grow a little and to get all the necessary injections. The best option is 6-9 months old cat.
Then comes the price – the FAQ is why so expensive? My answer – because you’ve chosen an expensive breed, a high-class cat. Nobody’s gonna give you any discount just because you’re not going to do any cat shows with your pet. It’s like buying an expensive car – the fact that you are going to ride it only on weekends doesn’t give you any discount.
You actually can get a cat for a lower price, but be ready for a lower class. And if someone offers you a high-class pet for a low price – say no! Vet care for such cat will cost you more that the cat itself.
Everything listed above is here to save you time, money and the mourning after.
If you’ve got yourself satisfactory answers for all the questions you’re one step away from getting a new friend. Visit some cat shows, search the web for advertisements. Finding the right cat takes time, but you’ll know it when you see it.
There is a big but coming, though – allergy.
Make sure you don’t have one BEFORE you get a cat because you don’t want to give up your new friend just because you were not attentive enough. It’s a huge stress for your pet!
